Biographie

Guo Wei est né en 1960 dans la province de Sichuan, dont il sort diplômé de l’Académie des Beaux-Arts en 1989. Il vit encore actuellement dans la province de Sichuan.

L’oeuvre de Guo Wei est une expérience visuelle de l’adolescence. Elle met en scène des adolescents pubères nus ou peu vêtus, très souvent sa propre fille dans un cadre où l’eau est également un élément omniprésent, comme la plage ou la salle de bain. Les éclaboussures de l’eau ou les virevoltages des insectes sont traduits par les grandes griffures blanches appliquées sur la toile par des aiguilles chirurgicales hypodermiques, créant un dynamisme et une tension internes.
