The drill drawings • The tools of creation

"What object, among the tools of the worker and the draftsman, can bring together both its action and its sound? The idea of the drill then presented itself to me with obviousness: in its rotary movement, it pierces and erodes the paper, leaving as many impacts as those inhabiting my memory. This technique interests me because it is also in a way a metaphor for the whirling dervish, who, in his enchanting whirlwind, merges with the sounds of hammer blows on the ' anvil. In his round, he mingles with the cacophony of the world, absorbing the noises in his immaculate white outfit. His moving silhouette draws the detour of a bell. The latter, calls the faithful and reminds us that the mystics Muslims are also Christians. The dancing electrons, left there on the paper, had to enclose an axis carrying all these stories. Thus appears the image of Christ in my drawings, the first whirling dervish and cosmic nucleus. The myriad of electrons accompanied its ascent which unites in its round with the cosmos."

Yazid OULAB - Interviews with Julia MARCHAUD

ARTIST

A man with a thousand facets and an ancestral soul, Yazid Oulab is an artist who seems nourished by centuries of the most diverse and richest civilizations. He presents himself as an interpreter and a messenger, capable of analyzing and transcribing through simplified objects millennia of cultural, social and spiritual histories.

An indisputable craftsman in love with gesture, a fascinated and fascinating poet for whom the gaze gives rise to meaning, a tireless and potentially omniscient witness, Yazid Oulab embodies the figure of the accomplished artist. That of a man who, far from the excesses specific to our current societies, would be ready to give art its new letters of nobility.

His works, objects, installations, sculptures or videos are all tools of expression and communication that push us to consider the cultural plurality of our time while measuring the historical significance of everything.
