“The colored backgrounds, framed in raw iron, cover the plaster panels. They possess the beauty of terracotta and calcination, the palettes of red or yellow ochre found on aged Mediterranean facades, the black robes of the South, or the somber ranges of blues and greens from the depths of the sea. They understand the subtle harmonies of color and shadow and certain modulations of hardened leather, of granulation and the smooth expanses of matte and waxed finishes. Their nuances make the flame of time vibrate, though it is bronzed by entropy; their pigments of earth and light are tanned by the smoke of a patient candle.
