Andy Warhol (1928-1987) is a major figure in contemporary art and one of the most iconic representatives of Pop Art. Born in Pittsburgh to a family of Slovak immigrants, he began his career as a commercial illustrator before making his mark on the New York art scene. Warhol became famous for his brightly colored screenprints, depicting both icons of popular culture (Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley) and everyday consumer goods (Campbell's soup cans, Coca-Cola bottles). By blurring the lines between art, commerce, and mass culture, he profoundly transformed the way art is conceived and perceived.
