More informations
Astrid Staes is a young emerging photographer living in Paris. Trained as an actress, she has been passionate about staging, scenography, architecture and photographing empty spaces for several years. She has made Japanese KODOKUSHI her subject of study.
Photography invites us to think that light has a memory. Astrid Staes' photographs are an invitation to solitude and absence. Floating in this soft light is a bygone era, an aggregate of sensations and feelings, the skin of the soul delicately suspended by the photographer.
A certain poetry emanates from her photographs, in which desert landscapes, abandoned buildings and abstract forms are visible. The artist establishes a dialogue between the body and absence. Considered to be the beginning and the end of everything, the emptiness occupies an important place in the art of Astrid Staes. Her work brings to light what is already there.
