Artist • Patrick Chelli

Patrick Chelli is a self-taught artist, born on 23rd March, 1955. The artist lives and works in Paris. Solely guided by his observational skills and encounters with other artists, he was inspired by surrealist and recovered objects, especially old papers, so as to create collages during the 90’s. He developed his art and began working with several mediums like sculpture, embossing and photography. The latter, allows him to highlight his «producer» talents. He loves women and therefore is the main focus of his art: nudes, clothed, mysterious and sensual. This medium also gives him a chance to make references to painting, especially a nod to biblical scenes. His series of hidden portraits shows this talent well, concealed faces which seem familiar to us, but this way they are unveiled even better. It’s about making a reference to the current society where each individual is displayed to the entire world, lost in the crowd, stereotypes or forgotten. Patrick Chelli is a tale-teller of human beauty, he mainly focusses on body language, central theme of his photography.
