Ma Sibo
Strongly inspired by Impressionism, Ma Sibo likes to paint “fuzzy and imperceptible” landscapes where shadow and light enter into dialogue. His color-graded, layered and retouched works draw viewers into a poetic dream world. The everyday objects that inhabit his paintings specifically evoke the era of the 1990s in China and unfold as a staging of memory, personal but also collective.

Biography
Born in 1979 in Tianjin (in the Beijing region), Ma Sibo graduated from the Fine Arts School of Tianjin after studying oil painting for three years. In 2002, he went to France to continue his studies at the Beaux-arts Toulon and then at the Beaux-arts Nîmes where he respectively obtained the diplomas of DNAP and DNSEP in 2004 and 2006.

In his paintings, Ma Sibo shows us fragments of intimate landscapes, like windows to the soul. Their evocative power comes from depicting bits of everyday life in dreamlike lightness. With the strange mixtures of reality and imagination, the luminous visions of Ma Sibo recall evocative emotions. Viewers have the impression that the paintings are closed to the outside world, but lit from within by a dazzling, vivid candle, revealing the poetry of our dreams.
