Galerie Loft invites you to the retrospective exhibition of Philippe Hiquily at Galerie Laurent Strouk.
Philippe Hiquily (1925–2013) was a singular French artist. A sculptor as well as a furniture designer, Hiquily kept his distance from the art market and from artistic movements. Free-spirited and hedonistic, he infused his works with a dreamlike and surreal spirit. The almost omnipresent eroticism and the delicacy of his creations contrast with the raw appearance of the reclaimed materials that form their foundation.
In 2012, Galerie Loft published the artist’s Catalogue Raisonné. In conjunction with this publication, numerous events were organized: a presentation and book signings at the Hotel Lutetia; a retrospective exhibition at the Mairie du VIe arrondissement de Paris; presentations of monumental sculptures in Saint-Germain-des-Pres and Place Saint-Sulpice; and exhibitions in numerous galleries, including Galerie Loft, which presented a previously unseen exhibition of the “Synthétiques” created in the 1970s. Philippe Hiquily is an artist we continue to champion.
The exhibition at Galerie Laurent Strouk will take place from March 11 to April 9, 2016, and will feature around forty works, including furniture pieces, sculptures, and paintings.
