“Sébastien Kito is an artist of withdrawal. Of line as well, since his refined sculpture tends to become a simple vertical or curved line. Curved, rather, because the world he draws belongs to the cosmic order. The earth is round, space is curved, the tree is elliptical.”
— Claude Mollard

Mobile, articulated, and hollowed-out sculptures, often evoking anthropomorphic or animal-like forms, Sébastien Kito’s works maintain a unique relationship with space, akin to the Japanese concept of ma, which refers to the subjective variations of the void linking two separate elements. From simple lines and outlines, the artist materializes cut-out forms that interconnect through a play of color and transparency, producing new refined volumes.

In doing so, he suggests complex relationships or interactions between the sculptures and the surrounding space, between fullness and emptiness.
