Jean-François ROUDILLON is pleased to invite you to LIU Baomin’s exhibition.

Galerie Loft presents his unique portraits—large-scale paintings—in which he depicts his subjects abstractly. Their faces, silhouettes, and bodies seem to emerge through a veil of water, a curtain of rain. Complex lines and strokes with a hyperrealistic rendering fill his works, which require months of work. Liu Baomin uses a palette of vivid colors, where his subjects, distorted by the water, reinforce the complexity of the artist’s visual vocabulary.

Born in 1968 in Xi’an, China. Living and working in Beijing, China.Liu Baomin got his diploma in 1989 from the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts (major in oil painting). The core of his work is the tension between reality and illusion, in an hyperrealistic manner consisting of portrayals seen through wet glass. He believes that it is because of consumerism that people put “value” on all sorts of things, on every aspect of life, and not just objects
