Inspired by the iconic Paris Métro entrances designed by Hector Guimard, a leading figure of Art Nouveau, Quentin Garel presents The Abyss Arch in a monumental 6-metre-high version.

Taking the fascinating form of an octopus with generous, flowing tentacles, the arch appears to emerge from the depths of an imaginary world. Its organic lines and sinuous curves echo the vegetal motifs of Gothic architecture, creating a dialogue between architecture, nature, and fantastical creature.

Entirely crafted from hammered brass, the work reveals a rich and vibrant materiality, its surface enhanced by a polished golden finish. This treatment captures and reflects the light, continuously transforming the appearance of the sculpture according to the viewer’s perspective and the surrounding illumination. The golden metal further enhances the work’s precious, almost alchemical quality, lending an aura of mystery to this monumental creature.

At 6 metres in height, The Abyss Arch takes on a spectacular architectural presence. Its tentacles embrace and define a passage, inviting the viewer to cross its threshold and symbolically enter an unknown world. Somewhere between sculpture, architecture, and fantastical creature, the work offers an immersive experience in which monumental scale meets the mystery of the deep.
