ABOUT CONSTRUCTED ART

“The abstract or geometric form seems to me more in tune with our time, with the future too, no doubt. This is what I try to do with my paintings, which owe much, in their inspiration and graphic expression, to my work as a sculptor and interpreter of space. In my paintings, I use the emblematic values of the vertical: the standing man, and of the horizontal: the man seeking to free himself from gravity but nevertheless caught up by it. The white or colored lines, which limit the visual fields, provoke variations, tensions, rhythms, supported by voluntarily few tonalities. I try to show the pictorial power generated by the line, the strict geometry, the mathematical value of the planes assembled to compose the painting. It is perhaps a mental construction which proceeds perhaps from my taste for mathematics, architecture in what it has of essential, the pure spatial functionality, without decorations.” Interview by Marc Gaillard – Journalist and art and architecture historian

The work in question highlights the light of the space that defines the concept of the day. In the composition, a luminous white rectangle is visible, accompanied by a vertical white line, which stands out from the surrounding black areas, creating a sculpted space that seems to have been formed by a beam of light from the infinite. This artistic creation incorporates the void, or light-space, as if it were a sculpture inserted into another sculpture.
