ABOUT CONSTRUCTIVE ART

“The abstract or geometric form seems to me more in tune with our time, with the future too, no doubt. This is what I try to do with my paintings, which owe much, in their inspiration and graphic expression, to my work as a sculptor and interpreter of space. In my paintings, I use the emblematic values of the vertical: the standing man, and of the horizontal: the man seeking to free himself from gravity but nevertheless caught up by it. The white or colored lines, which limit the visual fields, provoke variations, tensions, rhythms, supported by voluntarily few tonalities. I try to show the pictorial power generated by the line, the strict geometry, the mathematical value of the planes assembled to compose the painting. It is perhaps a mental construction which proceeds perhaps from my taste for mathematics, architecture in what it has of essential, the pure spatial functionality, without decorations.”
