TOWERS SCULPTURES

The 1960s were an opportunity for Marino di Teana to concretely adapt the reflections and theories he had been developing for more than a decade. His sculptures are no longer conceived in an architectural perspective, but constructed as projects that actually became sculpture-models. The many towers and spires he creates at this time are particularly representative examples.

Modern Dungeon or Tribute to Paul Héroult are indeed futuristic towers and the focal center of the “future cities” or “hanging cities” that Marino imagines as part of his global project for the modernization of local urban architecture. His Garden Tower is also a fascinating example of the adaptability of Marinian architecture to its environment, for it is possible to vary its height by adding or subtracting floors. This attraction to the privileged shape of the «tower» in the artist’s work also shows that he was aware of the urban problems associated with population explosion. By raising the height of his architectural creations to the maximum, he aimed to reduce the ground area while maximizing living space.

ARTIST

Francesco Marino Di Teana is a painter, sculptor, architect, poet and philosopher, who marked the sculpture of 1950s-1960s by developing his theories of the tri-unit logic, which integrates the “void” like an active element of the pictorial and architectural composition.
