FREED SPACES

Marino’s research on “dynamic” forms also allows him to explore yet undiscovered physical characteristics of sculpture, such as expansion or speed. Through his work the artist reinterprets and studies the interaction of shapes. He explores the relation between empty and solid shape in a “sensitive” space that transforms static forms and heavy materials into aerial compositions filled with “energy” and movement. The series Tribute to composers symbolizes the “immaterial” character of music that Marino wants to capture within his work. Rhythms, tones, sounds are so many elements that the artist wants to integrate into his sculpture: “In music, I find my dynamic space (…). In the structures I create, I want to achieve something that we find in music: the space between a hill and a city is a musical space, like the difference between eighths and half-notes that produces rhythm.“

It is therefore not trivial to say that in addition to being a sculptor and painter, Marino was also a poet and a philosopher. His sculptural works only reflect a small part of his aesthetic thought on creative energy.
